Four performers were declared winners at the Young Artists Concerto Competition on January 22, 2023. All were offered the opportunity to perform with the York River Symphony Orchestra. Flutist Emily Smith was awarded first place. Joshua Kang, Tyler Hyun and Thomas Sunderland tied for second place.

Joshua and Thomas performed with the orchestra on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at the United Jewish Community of the Virginia Peninsula, 401 City Center Blvd, Newport News. Emily and Tyler performed there on Sunday, October 8, 2023.
